Yes, Gin from Japan!
Japanese Gin is a recent phenomenon in recent years. Various Japanese whiskey distillers got together in 2016 and 2017 to make 'Japanese Gin' their own. And they succeeded very well, very well in fact. All over the world you can now find gins that are distilled in Japan.
Japanese
gins tend to emphasize unique local ingredients (such as Shiso and
Yuzu) in addition to the more classic ingredients. The Japanese
influence on the classic gin formula is clearly visible, often in the
first batches of their gin. Can we say that it has its own category of
'Japanese Gin'? No, not at the moment. The current gin distillations are
often really inspired by the international distillation processes that
have been in use for many years. But who knows, it could just be that we
will soon be talking about Japanese Gin only.
