Gekkeikan Horin is a Japanese Junmai Daiginjo Sake and it shows exact  the pursuit of the Japanese perfection.
The rice used for this sake is a special sake rice, sake rice is only used for exclusive high quality sake. The rice is often harvested manually and is on average four times more expensive than good table rice. This sake is a blend of the two most famous sake rice species; The Yamada-chiki and the Gohyakuman goku.

This sake comes from Kyoto, this prefecture city is responsible for almost 15% of all sake produced in Japan. The former imperial capital owes its popularity to here, among other things, special soft water with the name Yume-Misu which means dream water.

Everyone who came into contact with Sake knows the name Gekkeikan what Lauwererenkrans means. The brewery is known among the general public for the large -scale pure sake and among the connoisseurs around the high -quality manually brewed sake where Horin sake is a showpiece. Public secret about this brewery is that they even make sake for the imperial court.

Very elegant sake with lots of fruit and florality. Balanced taste with a nice final. Nice combinations with light starters, white fish, sushi and vegetables. Serving advice is cold around ten degrees in a wine glass. The Sake Meter Value is +2 This means that the sake has a small sweetness. 


Alcohol percentage is around 15% and this is on average for high qualities sake.

Gekkeikan brouwerij kent een historie die teruggaat tot 1637 wanneer Jiemon Okura een brouwerij begint in de Fushimi regio te Kyoto. De in eerste instantie kleine brouwerij, welke lokaal sake verkoopt, is met eigen innovatieve ontwikkelingen vanaf begin 1900 tot heden ten dage uitgegroeid tot een van de grootste brouwerijen wereldwijd.

Bekend in Europa zijn vooral de Amerikaanse Gekkeikan producten, dit terwijl men in Japan op grote schaal sake geproduceerd van hoge kwaliteits welke helaas minder bekend is buiten Japan. Gekkeikan ofwel lauwerenkrans maakt in Japan mooie toegankelijke sake waarbij Horin sake een van de oogappels is.
